His Music

During his singing career David Hughes performed on stages throughout Britain and Europe, made many records and  sang on the radio and television. His fans and admirers travelled from far and  wide to see him perform on stage. His records were high in the charts and his  contemporaries respected him when he courageously changed from his pop music career to the challenging roles of an opera singer.

David’s singing voice continues to give pleasure and is appreciated today. Two of his greatest fans in the UK are Lena and Harry Smith. Like so many who enjoy his music they have expressed their feelings like this:

  • “David's delivery of a song can lift you to the  heavens or simply melt
    your heart.....”
  • “An amazing talent, a captivating voice with extraordinary range and
    power......”
  • “An incredible voice so polished and professional.......”
  • “David's beautiful music and songs have  enriched my life.....”

They do all they can to promote David’s talents to a wider audience in the UK and in the USA. For example, in the USA they have supported the DJ Frank Dee on his radio station(His radio station can be heard on the internet here http://www.gmmy.com/ ) who plays a lot of David’s opera tracks. The whole of a two hour broadcast was used to play opera tracks by David.

NB. We do not make any financial gain from these websites or from sales of David’s music CDs.

Since his death in 1972 Mary, his sister, and other family members have kept his memory and talents surviving by giving evening talks about  him. All these were well attended and they had many requests to return.  Magazines publish features on him and local and national radios frequently play  his recordings. Through the media Mary has made contact with many people who have remained his fans. Indeed in the last two years his popularity has  increased again as the clarity and quality of his voice is recognised by new  audiences.

In recent years Mary has become less mobile, mainly because  of osteoporosis. However she has care and support from her daughter, other close  family and friends who help her to maintain a busy life. A great part of her weekly routines involves her in writing letters to David’s fans and playing his music.
